A simple, barely furnished barn in Norwegian Minneapolis is the location for a surprise 50th birthday for Peer Gynt. His heart attack instigates the recounting of his life story in flashback, with help from the barn and its contents. At the height of Peer’s adventures, the entire floor of the barn becomes a wave machine, freezing into sand dunes in the desert scenes and undulating dramatically as the raging sea.

“… this idiosyncratic take on a prickly work might well verge on the definitive.”
